THE 2004-2005 BOYS U-13 SEASON RECAP
In their third year of existence, the U-13 FC America 92’ Boys built on past successes and began to show glimpses that they were going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Try-outs brought five new players and added considerably to our blossoming ball control style of play, while allowing us to also begin to implement new tactical formations to improve our overall attacking philosophy.
We began the Fall season late, due to our location at the epicenter of hurricane central, but managed to capture our second tournament championship in October by repeating as winners of the Brevard Fall Challenge. We were bracket runner-ups at the Largo United Halloween Classic in October and the Dallas Texans Fall Cup in November, and managed a 5-1-1 League record in a hurricane shortened Fall season.
The boys began 2005 with a bang capturing the championships in their first two tournaments of the year. In January they went 3-0-1 while winning the Ormond Beach Winter Challenge and followed by going 4-0, with a goal differential of 24-0, while winning their first Disney Spring Holiday Festival. They played strong in March in Birmingham at the Vulcan Cup, going 1-1-1, and finished off their tournament year by winning their 4th Championship in May at the Palm Bay Spring Challenge. They finished the Spring League with another solid showing, going 7-1, but hit their only real bump in the road at Round One of State Cup, getting knocked out in two games against a strong draw.
The final tally showed the U-13’s with an overall record of 28-13-8, a Got Soccer final ranking of 5th in the State, and four tournament championships. More importantly, the boys’ level of play raised dramatically, leading to great expectations for the 2005-2006 FC American 92’ boys.
The U-12 OMNI continued on their improved track over the course of the 2003-2004 season, improving their roster by adding some significant speed and athleticism, while further developing their individual ball skills under the watchful eye of Tom Traxler, our team and trainer and club director of coaching.
The Fall season opened with the Boys reaching the semi-finals at the 1st Coast Labor Day Classic, and followed with their first ever tournament championship at the Brevard Fall Challenge. We placed second in league play in the Premier Division, with a record of 8-2, and finished the first half of the season with a record of 18-7-1.
The second half began with the boys reaching the finals of the CFU classic and the Semi’s of the Ormond Beach Winter Challenge and the AAU President’s Cup followed by a great performance at Round One of Regional Cup, going 2-0-1 and advancing. We were knocked out in Round Two of the Cup, but followed with our first out of State Tournament trip when we traveled to the Adidas Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. We again placed second in the Premier Division in Spring league play, with a 6-2 record, and finished out the season with semi-finals appearances at the Palm Bay Spring Challenge and the Seminole Memorial Day Cup.
Our final tally included an overall record of 33-24-4 and a final GotSoccer State Ranking of 7th. We played in 61 matches, again by far the most of any U-12 team in our area, and watched as the competitive ness of the team improved dramatically.
The 2002-2003 Boys U-11 Season Recap
Last year, the U-11 started from scratch, with an opening day roster of 17 players, composed primarily of the old CFU Rockets (Sam, Erick, Enzo, Jason) coached by Dick Hamann, and the CFU Tournament Barracuda’s (Will, Eli, Alex, Bryce and Orman) Coach Bates’ team. The OMNI struggled through the first half, posting a 4-6 regular season record and a 1-6-2 tournament record (at Blackwatch, Brevard Fall and Clearwater Thanksgiving). Those early defeats, at the hands of some top-notch experienced Clubs, gave us valuable game experience, which in turn allowed the this team to post a substantially improved second half record.
As 2003 dawned, the U-11 were bracket winners in Round One of Regional Cup, runners-up at the Presidents Cup in February, runner-up in League play during the Spring season, and finalists during the U-11 premier playoffs, which we organized and hosted. We missed out on the Final Four at Regional Cup on goal differential to a Club that we decisively defeated in Round Two, and substantially improved our team’s depth and speed during the June 2003 tryouts.
We played 54 matches, by far the most of any Central Florida Premier Club in our age group, including 20 league games, 6 Region Cup games, and 28 tournament games over 9 events. We scored 104 goals, and had 54 assists. We posted 14 shut-outs, including 10 during the second half. Most importantly, we had a lot of fun.
