FC America U13 Boys Capture 2005 Ormond Beach Winter Challenge Championship

January 19, 2005 ... The FC America 92 Boys brought home their second 2004-2005 tournament championship, winning the 2005 Ormond Beach Winter Challenge by defeating the First Coast KYX Blues 2-0 in an exciting Sunday Final.

FC America opened the wet, cold tournament with a gut wrenching 2-2 draw with St. Augustine United.  Down 2-0 early in the second half, missing two starters, and on the wrong end of every whistle, the boys staged a furious comeback, getting the tying goal with less than 5 minutes remaining, and barely missing the winning goal twice in the final 90 seconds. Game two found the boys in fine form, with the result being a dominating 5-0 victory against Creeks Clash.  Sunday finally found the team back at full strength, and the KYS Vipers out of Keystone Heights were the victims, falling 9-1 in a game that could have been worse.

The Sunday Final began with the sun finally peeking thru, and temperatures in the 40’s.  The boys started hot, going up 1-0 in the first minute, and by 20 minutes the score was at 2-0 with FC America in control.  The second half was a defensive one, as the back line dug in and never really gave the KYX a good look at goal.  We missed out on several good opportunities ourselves, but did enough to hang on for the victory.
