FC America 92' U-17 Boys Complete Great State Cup Run as
Florida State 2009 Finalist May 30, 2009 ... The FC America U-17 Boys completed an unbelievable 2009 Florida State Cup Championship run on Sunday, May 17, 2009, finishing as State Finalists after falling to two-time defending State Champion Wellington S.C. 2-1. The 92' boys run started as Group F winners, going undefeated in first round group play against SAA-Real Madrid, HCU Black and Dunedin S.C. in mid-March. That title propelled them straight into the Sweet 16, held April 16-17 in Tampa, Florida. The Round of Sixteen began with a convincing 3-1 win against Central Pasco S.C. and culminated with an exciting final eight victory against our local rivals, the Florida Rush 2-1. The Final Four kicked off May 16-17, in Wellington, Florida against another local rival, FSA Lightning. The 92 boys dominated that match, winning 2-0 and found themselves in the State Championship match against the home team, Wellington S.C., a 1-0 winner against Brevard United. With a huge home crowd cheering on Wellington, the boys fell behind 1-0 at the 23rd minute. However, we equalized just before the half on a brilliant PK taken by Erick Hamann, created by a nice breakout run by Eli Beates. The second half remained goalless until the 89th minute, when Wellington converted their own PK to seal a 2-1 victory, and their 3rd straight Florida State championship. A great run by FC America 92: Pedro Alba, Chris Alavarez, Mike Anderson, Will Bates, Eli Beates, Alex Bisbee, Brandon Curriston, Luke Davis, Tanner Duttweiler, Yambet Febo, Sebastian Gonzalez, Erick Hamann, Mitch Hanley, Ivan Hernandez, Josh Jacobson, Charlie Munoz, Jorge Nazario-Lopez, Jason Reiss, Alex Rowlinson, Billy Voecks, Coach Tom Traxler, Assistant Coach Barry Ings, Assistant Coach Scott Bates. Congratulations!
