I would encourage all coaches and parents to research another USSF
organization "US Club Soccer". Some of our teams in the club are
registered as a US Club Soccer team and it has many benefits. They
have their own regional tournaments which lead to a National
Championship tournament in July.
US Club Soccer has been known for its Score at the Shore showcase
events and ID2 program to identify players for the National ODP
program. Other benefits include a roster size of 26 players, no
permission to travel around the country and a very easy process
for adding and removing players with no limitations.
The southern regional tournament will be held over Memorial Day
weekend in 2007 in Jacksonville. We encourage all teams to check
it out. Please contact me for more information.

Do not forget to visit FC America's new equipment gear supplier
"United World Soccer". They are located in the Festival Bay Mall
off of International Drive near the Bass Pro Shops. Their
telephone number is 407-352-2020. Any player wearing their FC
America jersey to the store will receive a 10% discount on their
purchase.
Happy Holiday Soccer Shopping!!!

For tournaments in Florida, a good source for information is the
FYSA website. On the FYSA home page click on tournaments and it
provides information by month. Also, a good source for National
tournaments is the gotsoccer.com website under tournaments.

One of the best developmental models is the Brazilian system.
Everyone unquestionably agrees that Brazil consistently produces
the greatest players in the world, and in the greatest numbers.
But the Brazilian development scheme is not a conscious one from
an administrative or coaching perspective. It comes naturally from
a culture of FREE PLAY...The Brazilian model means that after
finishing the school day, children head to the Brazilian
equivalent of a playground. Maybe it's the streets, or a tiny back
lot, or an empty field. On their own initiative and without
organization, they meet up with friends and just play soccer,
imitating the heroes they have grown up watching.
This is a youth environment all of us involved in youth soccer
would love to see duplicated in this country.
I think we, as coaches and administrators, have to constantly
advocate for the Brazilian-style system of development. Although
the American youth soccer movement is tremendous, one of its
biggest drawbacks is that it is very structured and organized. As
a result, a young person doesn't really get a sense of freedom to
develop her own player personality. I don't think this is good.
Instead, I wish there was unstructured, pick-up soccer being
played in neighborhoods all over the country.

FC America Winter Academy Program for U10-14 Girls and Boys
Combine age groups U10/11, 12, 13, 14
Technical Session - 10 to 15 minutes on technical skills but with
players partnering with players from different teams. Each week a
different coach would be responsible for leading and providing the
content for this technical mini-session.
Small Sided Games - 60 minutes on 4 v 4 games with a cross section
of ages on each team (1 each from the U11, 12, 13, 14). Teams
would rotate every 10 minutes to play a different opponent. No
referees, no coaching. Between games each team would discuss on
their own how they are doing and decide what they need to do
better in the next game. Coaches would take this time to observe
players and discuss progress and development issues.
To kick -off the program above we are also offering an opportunity
for players to get some speed and agility training with Honey
Brown from Performance Training at a minimal cost of $5 per
player.
Thursday, November 30th; 5:45pm - Speed Training and Agility with
Honey Brown from Performance Training ($5 per player)
Thursday, November 30th; 6:30pm - Technical Session with the ball
Thursday, November 30th; 6:45pm - 7:45pm - 4 v 4 round robin with
new opponents every 10 minutes (cross section of ages on each
team) and emphasis on free play and technical flair and
creativity.

We are asking all parents and players to
help refer players in the following age groups. We are currently
looking for additional u9, u10, u11, u12 and u13 boys and u9, u10,
u11, and u12 girls. We will have continual open registration for
these age groups. This is very important as we continue to build the
foundation of the club. Let people know!! Thank you for your help
and support!!!
Sincerely,
Joe Battista
